What to Expect During a Cosmetic Surgery Consultation

SCROLL

Meeting with the surgeon and his staff will help you decide whether cosmetic surgery is right for you. Before scheduling a plastic surgery consultation, research the procedure(s) you are considering to learn what is typically involved.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME

  • Come prepared for the consultation with a list of carefully considered questions.
  • You may be able to complete background information forms via a patient portal before your appointment time. Fully disclosing your complete medical history, including medical issues of blood relatives, is important.
  • Bring a complete list of your current medications and supplements. This encompasses anything you ingest to enhance your health, including vitamins, and teas.
  • Dress comfortably, especially if you’re considering a body procedure to make changing clothes easier.
  • It always feels good to have support from a loved one. You are encouraged to bring a friend/family member to your appointment.

THE CONSULTATION

Arrival

We know first impressions matter and have created a warm, welcoming environment for our patients. When you check in at the reception desk, you can fill out forms if you haven’t submitted them electronically.

Meeting the Physician Assistant

When you are called to begin your appointment, you will first meet with Amber Fichtner, Physician Assistant, who will review your medical history with you.

Meeting the Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Roth is a personable, compassionate professional. He cares deeply about giving his patients having a wonderful experience from their first consultation through long-term follow-up. His friendly, easy-going and relaxed attitude puts the most anxious patients at ease.

Dr. Roth knows that every patient is unique. Together with his staff, he will take all the time necessary to individualize your care based on your personal needs. He carefully explains your options in easy-to-understand language before making his recommendations so that you can then determine the final treatment choice.

Issues to Discuss with Dr. Roth

  • What do you want to change about your body–and why you do want to change it?
  • How do you feel about your body now? What specific changes do you want to see after the surgery?
  • What are the best procedure(s) to help you realize your goals? What are the results that can be expected from each procedure, including the benefits and risks of each?
  • What’s involved in the surgery (e.g., location of incisions, anesthesia type, and recovery timeframe)?
  • Is Dr. Roth a board certified plastic surgeon? (Dr. Roth is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is also a member of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
  • How many times has Dr. Roth performed the procedure(s) you are considering?
  • How regularly has Dr. Roth performed that procedure?
  • Where will the surgery take place?
  • Who will be the anesthesiologist?
  • How would an emergency be handled?
  • How has Dr. Roth helped patients with similar physical issues and concerns? (Dr. Roth will show you before and after photos of their results).

Dr. Roth will leave the room while you change into a robe and return to examine the area of concern following your initial discussion. A female staff member will remain in the room at all times.

Be aware that an ethical plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Roth, wants to know exactly what bothers you to address your specific concerns. He will discuss the pros and cons of a cosmetic procedure and possible alternatives so you can give an informed consent.

Payment Options

We want to make cosmetic care affordable. We accept most forms of payment, including CareCredit financing.

Making Your Decision

After discussing all of the factors involved with your proposed procedure, you should have a good sense of whether Dr. Roth is the right choice for you. You will be provided with reading material on the proposed procedure, which may include preoperative and postoperative instructions and a consent form. Read this information thoroughly and ask questions about anything you do not understand.

Don’t feel obligated to make a decision immediately—if you aren’t sure, go home and think about your consultation, your goals, & how you would like to proceed. You should never feel pressured to sign up for surgery on the spot. Any reasonable surgeon understands you may need time to think it over.
